The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria seeks Genetic Counselors for multiple positions to work with patients and families in counseling, follow-up testing and communicating with referring providers. Master’s degree in Genetics Counseling or in Medical Genetics from an accredited genetic counseling training program is required. Must have ABGC certification or have active candidate status and must have licensure or be eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois.

The Department has 145 faculty members providing general pediatric services and pediatric subspecialty coverage for children in Central Illinois. We perform our mission in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Illinois, Easter Seals-UCP and multiple other partners within the community.  An excellent benefits package is available including vacations, sick time, CME, health and life insurance and retirement plan.

Patient Assessment / Counseling / Education:
Evaluate and counsel pediatric, perinatal and adult patients and their families on genetic disorders and diseases pertaining to them.

Review patient records and test results. Evaluate and assess patient family history to determine patients at risk.

 Discuss etiology, diagnosis, management, and results with patients and patients’ partners; recommend and discuss available testing options;

Follow up on patient medical appointments and lab testing. Review test results and recommends follow-up testing, if needed.

Determine appropriateness of genetic testing. Provide and secure consent and coordinates the genetic testing.

Assists in the interpretation of the genetic test results.

 
Teaching / Lecturing:
Deliver educational lectures on genetics to residents, students, fellows and medical personnel at UIC and other medical centers.

Other duties:
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

 

Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or in Medical Genetics from an accredited genetic counseling training program required.
Must have American Board of Genetic Counseling certification or have active candidate status.
Must have licensure or be eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois.
