The School of Public Health, Community Health Sciences, MidAmerica Center for Public Health Practice seeks an Assistant Director of Research & Evaluation.   This position leads and conducts research and evaluation in Public Health and population based sciences. Provides leadership in the design, development, and implementation of evaluation plans, protocols, and tools for grant funded projects/programs including but not limited to the reduction of health disparities, health-related systems change, and health leadership development. Collaborates with MCPHP staff and partners in the ongoing development and implementation of a variety of health leadership training activities. Authors or contributes to the authorship of reports used for grants, practice or other publications. Directs the overall management of research and compliance, ensuring that they are conducted in an ethical manner
and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws and regulations, institutional policies, and requirements or determinations of the School of Public Health

•Plan, manage, implement and perform research in population-based and public health sciences using scientific methodologies in an efficient and ethical manner and to meet the scope and agenda of the research/evaluation project, while also complying with the financial and administrative policies and regulations associated with the award.

•Supervise research/evaluation activities of research staff assigned to the project(s).

•Provide leadership on meeting IRB requirements

•Direct the research/evaluation projects throughout their life cycle, ensuring that the objectives are on schedule in accordance with the sponsor’s expectations.

•Document results of research/evaluation through publication of reports, manuscript, scientific papers, presentations at specific conferences and other media. Maintain consistent knowledge of developments in the public health field

•Seek out new funding opportunities that engage the Unit’s overall mission and objectives and write proposals in support of these grant opportunities.

•Design, develop and implement evaluation plans, protocols and tools for grant-funded project/programs focused on the reduction of health disparities, health-related systems change, and health leadership development.

• Project management and oversight for both long-terms and immediate projects; ensure creation and delivery of high-quality reports for funders and governmental organizations.

•Act as a liaison to community, public health and University partners, as well as to broader external constituency as the project extends its reach to a national level; this can include providing training and education to better understand the research/evaluation work

•Develop and implement new evaluation protocols and processes.

•Work with MCPHP staff on local, national and international initiatives to ensure coordination between implementation and evaluation.

•Database management and ability to compile data from multiple administrative data sources preferred

•Hire, train, and develop and manage staff to ensure that an efficient and qualified group exists to meet the research objectives effectively. Plan, assign, and review all of the work of the assigned research personnel to ensure that the project’s objectives are met.

•Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

• A Master’s degree in social science required; PhD preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related program and research experience.
• Asserted research ability demonstrated through publication and grant record.
• Knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods required. Qualitative research experience preferred.
• Advanced writing and communications skills.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and stakeholders. Experience with IRB.
