The UIC College of Pharmacy invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences (BPS).  Founded in 1859, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy’s mission is to be a global leader in improving human health and benefiting society through pharmaceutical education, research, service and entrepreneurial activity.

Located in the heart of Chicago, the UIC College of Pharmacy is ranked sixth in the nation according to US News & World Report and seventh among the top ten US colleges of pharmacy in total NIH funding.  The Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences (BPS) consists of scientists with expertise in pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics, cell and molecular biology, toxicology and forensic sciences, as well as other disciplines closely allied to these sciences.  The Department is committed to preparing pharmacy students and graduate students for their chosen careers in areas related to the departmental expertise. Educational experiences are provided by faculty members actively engaged in teaching and in research areas such as pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics, cell and molecular biology, toxicology, and forensic sciences.

The research mission of BPS is directed toward increasing the understanding of drug delivery, drug action and rational drug therapy in an environment of professional and intellectual growth, with the ultimate goal of developing therapeutic agents to improve medical and pharmaceutical care.  They provide a wealth of experience and bring an incomparable passion to their science. 

The Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences has two outstanding, comprehensive and rigorous graduate programs: PhD in Biopharmaceutical Sciences (offering specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology and Pharmacogenomics) and the MS in Forensic Science.

The Department Head reports directly to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy.  The position requires strong leadership; efficient oversight of department operations, recruitment/retention of department teaching and research faculty, ability to serve as an advocate for the department to the research community, and a sophisticated knowledge of the issues confronting higher education and basic science research in a public institution.

 

The successful candidate for Department Head will be an innovator whose vision and leadership will foster the development of faculty, students and staff as well as facilitate and enhance the graduate and Doctor of Pharmacy programs.  Applicants must possess an earned PhD or PharmD with post graduate experience commensurate with the rank of tenured Professor.  Applicants must have a breadth of knowledge across several disciplines, a strong record in research and teaching, effective leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, and service to the profession.  Demonstrated administrative experience is preferred.
