Job Summary:

The Ophthalmology Clinic at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) is continuously seeking qualified Ophthalmic Technicians to join our team of professionals in providing ophthalmology services to our community. 

The Ophthalmology Clinic at UI Health leads the way in treating the most serious and complicated eye conditions and diseases. Home of the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, we are the No.1 referral for ophthalmologists in our region, and we see more than 35,000 patients each year. We have been leading the way in vision care for more than 150 years. In addition, our ophthalmologists are training the best and brightest medical students, in order to bring you the next generation of quality eye care.

The Ophthalmic Technician under general supervision assist Ophthalmologist by conducting testing and measuring of patient eye functions. Provide instructions to patients concerning their eye care.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Obtains and records patient’s medical history.
  • Performs all patient vision testing and eye measuring functions.
  • Measures glasses so that they properly fit the patient.
  • Instruct patients on proper eye care, including hygiene and usage of eye medicine.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

1. (A) Two years (24 months) of work experience comparable to that gained performing basic Ophthalmic services

OR

(B) Eligibility for certification as an Ophthalmic Technician by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
