The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks an exceptional leader and scholar to serve as the next Dean of the College of Education.
UIC (www.uic.edu) is among the nation’s preeminent urban public research universities, a Carnegie RU/VH research institution, and the largest university in Chicago. UIC serves approximately 28,000 students, comprising one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. Through its 15 colleges, including a full complement of health sciences, UIC produces nationally and internationally recognized multidisciplinary academic programs in concert with civic, corporate and community partners worldwide. By emphasizing cutting-edge and transformational research along with a commitment to the success of all students, UIC embodies the dynamic, vibrant and engaged 21st-century urban university.
The UIC College of Education actively engages the most pressing problems facing urban communities through the intersection of research, policy, and practice. The College creates new knowledge that improves teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment; informs policy and practice; and is of value to the communities it serves. Through its sixteen master’s and doctoral programs and one undergraduate program, the College prepares educators, researchers, and advocates to work effectively in urban schools, institutions of higher education, and other educational and community agencies. It prepares its graduates to make a difference in schools and communities with a focus on youths and adults who have been chronically underserved and historically marginalized. The College’s faculty comprises an accomplished community of scholars committed to educational equity as it contributes to social, political, and economic parity. The College’s centers and clinics provide opportunities for research, public service, and training. The College is also home to a campus-wide student academic support program.
