Vice Provost for Diversity and Senior Advisor to the Chancellor (Chief Diversity Officer)
The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks a scholar and leader to support the campus in becoming the nation’s premier urban public research university with “diversity” at the core of our mission, culture, academic programs and institutional identity. UIC is the largest university in the Chicago area, with over 27,000 students comprising what is among the most diverse student bodies in the nation, 15 colleges, 13,000 faculty and staff and the state’s major public medical center.
The Vice Provost for Diversity and Senior Advisor to the Chancellor will report to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Provost and the Vice President of the University of Illinois/Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago and direct the Office of Diversity. The primary responsibilities of the Vice Provost for Diversity and Senior Advisor are to advise and consult with the Chancellor on matters related to diversity; to coordinate, collaborate and consult and partner with campus units and departments to manage and lead campus-wide efforts to drive diversity to the core of all of UIC’s activities, including the creation of knowledge; and to serve as an advocate that provides a voice and influence in academic and campus administrative leadership decision-making. UIC, already a national leader in diversity, is poised to further deepen its demonstrated commitment through institutional transformative change.
The successful candidate must be a respected scholar with credentials meriting full professorship in a department of the university, and a skilled administrator with significant experience in program-building and administration and the ability to mobilize leaders from various institutional and community sectors around shared diversity goals. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to design bold, creative and innovative initiatives and to command the respect of his/her colleagues to impact climate and outcomes. The Vice Provost will serve as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and the Provost’s Cabinet.
