The College of Education’s Grant Writer will support student, faculty, and staff investigators to conduct mission-driven research that advances racial equity and addresses some of the most persistent challenges confronting schools and communities. The Grant Writer will work with the Associate Dean of Research to support faculty teams pursuing external funding opportunities and provide writing, formatting, and editing support. In addition, the Grant Writer will support the development of cross-unit collaborations and assist with research development activities to enhance the College’s research enterprise. The Grant Writer’s duties will include providing grantsmanship training for faculty, staff, and students and identifying and disseminating research opportunities.

  • Provides proposal development support for extramural funding in specialized areas of social and educational research. These responsibilities include leading and coordinating the roles of multiple investigators, initiating planning meetings, interpreting proposal guidelines, providing detailed critiques, and editing of draft documents, drafting non-technical materials, compiling, and preparing materials to meet sponsor requirements, conferring with sponsor personnel as necessary, building proposal budgets, and managing team tasks and deadlines.
  • Facilitate research grant communications including informing researchers of funding opportunities, networking with other grant professionals on- and off-campus, liaising with the proposal team and the College of Education Research Office, serving as an expert resources for education personnel on pre-award matters, coordinate working relationships with colleagues at other research sites, represent the College of Education on pre-award research development activities, and serve as point of contact for College of Education faculty when they seek pre-award and grant-related advice from other UIC offices.
  • Providing grant writing training to students, faculty, and students on specific techniques and approaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing grants and contracts.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in proposal development, reviewing, managing, or administrating grants at a research intensive university.
