Job Summary:

This position will focus on the daily research operations of the section including providing oversight for the operational and regulatory needs of federal and other collaborative research studies, helping to ensure excellence at every level. This position will effectively function as an Assistant Director within the facility and will report to the Director. Additionally, the Senior Research Manager will provide direct oversight to both junior and senior-level staff and provide training to staff at all levels, including staff matriculating into manager roles and less seasoned managers. This may include providing oversight to multiple research teams. The Senior Research Manager will work to continuously improve facility efficiency, rigor, and standards in compliance to the highest level. They will exemplify the values and mission of the institution.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties):

Oversees the execution of regulatory and compliance documentation and ensures all relevant staff are trained on regulatory requirements and audit readiness.

• Involved in strategic planning of research studies.

• Serves as a point of contact for Federal research networks.

• Develops and maintains research relationships with external agencies and institutions.

• Responsible for interfacing with internal/external Investigators, Scientists, Analysts, Managers, Research Coordinators, Laboratory Personnel, Operational/Administrative Staff, and Clinical Staff to gather information for operational enhancement.

• Works with the Director to develop and implement new processes for operational improvement.

• Assists the Director in attracting extramural funding for the facility and facility clients, as directed.

• Responsible for overseeing the timely completion of studies being serviced by the facility, ensuring all studies are run appropriately and according to protocol.

• Oversees the updating and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure uniformity across the system.

Assesses, determines, and coordinates staffing needs for the various areas of the facility.

• Participates in the decisions to employ, promote, and terminate personnel.

• Develops and implements training programs and materials for new and existing staff.

• Works with senior staff on training and development for matriculation into management roles.

• Oversees training of all new personnel to ensure they have the resources to be successful; supervises trainer(s).

• Participates in and oversees involvement in collaborative research studies.

• Ensures that standards for data management and specimen tracking are met.

• Ensures the timely reporting of study progress, status, and any relevant statistics to the Director.

• Provides continuous guidance and support to all staff and collaborators.

• Must be able to understand and relate to goals of the Director and work toward those goals; individually and as a member of the management team.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience: 

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required.

At least 8 Years of research experience.

Previous experience in managing research teams.

Familiarity with research areas including substance use, machine learning, and trauma is preferred.

Prior experience with Federal grants is required.

Experience in managing teams with diverse professional backgrounds

Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to lead projects to completion.

Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Capable of multi-tasking, remaining flexible and managing time effectively.

Must be able to make independent judgments; be self-motivated and use time and resources effectively.

Ability to work effectively within a team and actively promote team building and a positive work environment.

Excellent working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
