Job Summary:

UIC is seeking an Assistant to Director of University Unions to join the Student Centers team.

Under minimum supervision, the function of the Assistant to the Director of University Unions is to coordinate and manage the various operations and services of The Alley Bowling & Billiards in Student Center East and the Student Services Building.

  • Responsible for the operation of the Student Services Building which includes the opening and closing of the facility, as well as, The Alley Bowling & Billiards in Student Center East, which includes performing all necessary functions to ensure smooth, continuous operation of bowling facility and equipment.
  • Works with the university’s tradesmen for the Student Services Building’s cleaning and maintenance needs, heating and cooling requests, building’s projects, and other repairs as needed.
  • Oversee the proper maintenance and conditions of the bowling lanes and automatic pin setting equipment, including making adjustments and minor repairs when necessary.
  • Responsible for the general security of the Student Services Building by being aware of the various policies regarding safety, emergency evacuations, security cameras operation, various building alarms systems, and procedures for handling matters regarding the personal safety of building’s occupants.
  • Exercise solid judgment in reporting matters and problems to the University Police.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises the student building managers who are assigned to the Student Services Building and the Information Desk, as well as the Bowling & Billiards staff assigned to work in The Alley.
  • Responsible for the various event rooms set-ups and turn-overs and all audio-visual equipment used and the secure storage of such equipment such as tables, podiums, projectors, microphones, amplifiers, etc.   
  • Works to meet the needs of the various SSB building tenants in a timely and professional manner and notifies key staff members when appropriate.
  • Assists with inventory control of supplies and equipment and orders replacement parts when necessary for The Alley and SSB meeting rooms.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
    1. three years of experience in the management of a housing and conference unit
      OR
    2. Bachelor’s degree with a major in management, personnel, marketing, or related fields
      OR
    3. any combination of experience and university training (in areas outlined above) that totals three years
