The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks a Director of Talent Acquisition. This position will manage and execute talent strategies and solutions, enabling a culture of excellence and engagement. As the leader of the Talent Acquisition Team, collaborates to develop, implement, manage and analyze policies and procedures for Civil Service recruitment and selection.  The Director will oversee the strategy and day-to-day execution of recruiting and hiring for 600+ Civil Service positions each year across various parts of the University and UI Health.  Partners with college and department management team members to ensure that staffing goals are aligned with organizational needs and cultivates a premiere candidate experience.

The Director must operate well in a fast-paced environment, uphold the highest standard of professionalism, be able to effectively manage and mentor the Talent Acquisition staff, be well organized, and able to prioritize time across multiple immediate and long-term projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and coach a team of Talent Acquisition professionals, demonstrating excellent people management and leadership skills, and ensuring strong team capabilities and service delivery. Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert to guide and set performance standards for the team.
  • Act as trusted advisor to the UIC HR executive leadership team, other senior college and department leaders, hiring managers and HR partners on campus and to UI Health to understand the hiring needs and develop creative recruitment strategies for acquiring top talent from diverse communities.
  • Help to establish a broad organizational recruitment strategy including identifying and selecting recruitment partners, maximizing the use of current technology and developing employer brand.
  • Lead recruitment efforts by developing, implementing and refining recruiting and onboarding efforts to attract top talent across the institution with a commitment to diverse hiring practices.
  • Build and cultivate strong relationships with leadership and hiring managers by understanding business objectives and providing solutions to recruitment needs to fill vacancies.
  • Lead employment branding initiatives in partnership with UIC Marketing and external partners.
  • Oversee UIC’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and Onboarding activities, act as "super-user”, troubleshoot issues, run reports, and make recommendations for usage and process improvements.
  • Develop and conduct trainings for managers on use of ATS, interviewing skills/best practices, and other recruitment-related activities.
  • Operate within the State Universities Civil Service System (SUCSS) regulatory rules governing Civil Service hiring, state and federal regulations and laws and the University of Illinois System policies, statutes and rules.
  • Define and utilize metrics to create ongoing and ad-hoc recruitment reports. Provide reports such as Time to Fill by recruiter, source of hire, applicants per position, qualified applicants per hire, applicant completion rate, offer acceptance rate, time in workflow (i.e. days in a particular status), cost per hire, etc.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators related to talent acquisition and incorporate the metrics into department goals.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years Talent Acquisition experience at least 2 years in a management role.  Preferably 3+ years leading a Talent Acquisition Team.
  • Demonstrates a deep knowledge and understanding of professional trends in hiring, availability, sourcing, etc.
  • Ability to problem solve utilizing data, feedback and innovative thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and build relationships across multiple stakeholder groups and various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and effectively lead a team through change.
