The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria is seeking an Information Technology Technical Associate I (Academic Technologist) for the Academic Affairs department.

This is a full-time, exempt, union position (Monday – Friday) located in Peoria, IL (160 miles southwest of Chicago).

The IT Technology Technical Associate I (Academic Technologist) is responsible for supporting the use of classroom technologies on the Peoria campus, educating and training faculty on the effective use of technology in the teaching environment and participates in planning and coordination activities for undergraduate medical education testing setup and administration in Peoria. The Academic Technologist provides expert support and faculty development for educational initiatives with technologies to ensure UICOMP is meeting the needs of our undergraduate medical curriculum. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Technology Enhanced Instruction in Academic Affairs.

  • Provide frontline academic technology support for faculty and instructors engaged in content delivery in the undergraduate medical education curriculum on Peoria’s campus.
  • Train instructors on the software and classroom technologies needed to provide instruction prior to teaching.
  • Participate in the planning, installation, and coordination for undergraduate medical education testing on the Peoria campus.
  • Support faculty and staff in use, testing, and modification of institutional supported multimedia software applications (i.e. Blackboard, Echo 360, Panopto, Camtasia, Enduvo, CAE Learning Space, and various custom applications, other as identified).
  • Provide support and consultations for faculty using educational technology tools, including but not limited to the Learning Management System and video conferencing systems.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor and resolve day-to-day issues related to educational technologies for faculty, staff and students.
  • Develop job aids and similar tools by editing vendor or other provider materials or creating original works.
  • Assist in the identification, analysis, recommendation and selection of technology to enhance the UICOMP learning environment.
  • Provide input and recommendations into service roadmaps and new service offerings for learning environments.
  • Document resources and enhancements to new and existing services used in the undergraduate medical curriculum.
  • Provide communication on new features and offerings to UICOMP teaching faculty, staff and students.
  • Provide timely support and troubleshooting to teaching faculty and campus staff in response to academic technology issues and resolve issues to customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate and liaison with vendors or service providers, as needed, to resolve software or classroom technology issues to customer satisfaction.
  • Provide support for enhancements to existing offerings and/or new and emerging tools to support educational initiatives.
  • Assist UICOMP IT service teams with problem solving AV issues in classrooms and on any service delivery issues of educational technologies.
  • Facilitate workshops and presentations on the use of teaching and learning with technology in undergraduate medical education.

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  1. Any combination totaling two (2) years from the following categories:
    1. progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession
    2. college course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year
      • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years
  2. Additional education, training, and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required:

 

Required UIC Specialty Factor in addition to the above:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a field closely related to the discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional IT experience within Educational Technology or Instructional design required.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in one or more: web-based course development, learning/course management software, face-to-face training, technology assessment, application of technology and media in classrooms and/or online environments
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting and/or training in Blackboard Learning Management System, or similar LMS
  • Familiarity with AR or VR
  • Experience teaching, coaching, managing, and/or mentoring others
  • Experience in developing and implementing IT or educational technology initiatives tied to organization level strategic goals
