Open Rank Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)

The Department of Psychiatry and UIC Alcohol Research Center is seeking a basic and/or translational alcohol researcher with an interest in the molecular, behavioral, and clinical mechanisms underlying alcohol use disorder (AUD). The Department and Alcohol Research Center brings together scientists and clinicians with expertise across multiple disciplines including neural, epigenetic, genetic and behavioral processes that contribute to the pathophysiology of AUD. The Department has a strong track record of NIH funding that supports both basic and clinical AUD research programs as well as depression, neuroimaging, and women’s mental health. Alcohol researchers receive additional support via UIC’s NIAAA-funded P50 Center, which focuses on the epigenetic, molecular, and behavioral basis of AUD, and a T32 alcohol training grant (https://www.psych.uic.edu/research/alcohol-research-center). UIC is a highly collaborative research environment with a strong neuroscience presence across multiple departments including Anatomy & Cell Biology, Physiology & Biophysics, Neurology, Medicine, Biological Sciences, and Psychology. Training is provided by several interdisciplinary graduate programs including the interdepartmental Graduate Program in Neuroscience (GPN), the Graduate Education in bioMedical Sciences (GEMS) umbrella program, and an NIH-funded Medical Science Training Program (MSTP).

Faculty will be expected to transfer and maintain an active, competitively funded research program focused on the neurobiology of AUD, with considerable support provided from the department. Faculty will be expected to be active member of the UIC Alcohol Research Center. Eligible candidates will have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in a relevant area of neuroscience, neurobiology or biomedical sciences, and a track record of active NIH funding. Preference will be given to candidates who can bring a well-established alcohol research program to the UIC Alcohol Research Center in areas related to the neurocircuitry, behavioral, and molecular mechanisms of AUD with an interest and track record of bridging basic and clinical neuroscience. Inquiries and requests for more information should be directed to Dr. Subhash Pandey (scpandey@uic.edu), Chair, Search Committee. Applicants must apply online at http://jobs.uic.edu and reference Job ID #166759 and submit a CV, cover letter and three letters of recommendation by July 6, 2022. The application review process will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The start date is flexible.
