The University of Illinois Chicago - College of Dentistry (UIC COD) Department of Pediatric Dentistry is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Staff Nurse I to work in the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation Pediatric Dentistry Outpatient Care Center (ILCHF PD-OCC). 

 

The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the UIC College of Dentistry is the largest provider of pediatric dental care in Illinois, serving almost 10,000 patients from birth to 17 years of age every year statewide in 30,000 scheduled visits. The ILCHF PD-OCC serves healthy children at low risk of complications from ages 3 to 17 years who need oral health care under general anesthesia.?

 

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care in the general anesthesia (GA) treatment rooms and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) in the ILCHF PD-OCC. The nurse confirms appointments for dental care under GA and discusses pre-operative instructions with families and patients (adult, pediatric and special needs); assist with patient GA induction whenever possible; provides direct patient care in the PACU, reviews discharge instructions with patients and families; contacts families and patients post-operatively and functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care.  The nurse fulfills unit and College goals in support the College, Department and the ILCHF PD-OCC. 

Qualifications include a minimum of Bachelor degree in Nursing from an accredited program required. Current license as a registered professional nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations, Division of Professional Regulation.  Current ACLS and/or PALS certification and current two years of experience (within the last five years) in pediatric PACU and/or critical care unit (PALS preferred).  Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.

 

The ideal candidate has experience in a busy patient care environment that serves a diverse patient population with a deep commitment to inclusion and ethical values.  Candidates with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; the ability to perform effectively and efficiently under the pressure of stressful emergency situations; intermediate skills using general office equipment; knowledge of Microsoft Office; excellent customer service skills; critical thinking and leadership skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
