The University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) invites applications and seeks nomination for a dynamic and collaborative leader for the position of Director, Center for Health Research.

UICOMP is one of the regional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is part of a 900-part bed hospital enterprise containing two major teaching hospital systems as well as the medical school. UICOMP’s educational programs include 260 medical students and over 300 residents/fellows.

The Director will help build the Center that will play a critical role in advancing the vision of the UICOMP by conducting population health research, advancing health equity through education and research, and evaluating health outcomes of health services and health care delivery models. The Director of Health Research is responsible for the direction and leadership of operational, programmatic and personnel activities for the Center. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibility is leading the development of the infrastructure and growth of the center that is aligned with the strategic vision and values of UICOMP.

This Center will use data science and informatics to identify key social determinants of health (SDoH) that impact the rural and urban populations served by the UICOMP and affiliate healthcare systems.  This Center will serve as an educational resource for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty, and lead research on health disparities and population health in the region. The Director will also work with UIC Institute for Healthcare Delivery Design and other Centers of Excellence at UIC to advance population health and health disparities research in Peoria.

UICOMP seeks an individual who is a collaborative and visionary leader, has strong record in academic medicine and research, and administrative leadership experience. The ideal candidate should have leadership skills as a listener, team player, and decision maker. We seek a Director who understands the future of population health and health disparities research will serve as a strong advocate for research and education. The Director will report to the Regional Dean, UICOMP. Qualified individuals can be a PhD or MD with research experience and be at rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

  • Focus efforts on building strong partnerships and sustaining them over time to build a path towards great influence, regional impact and national prominence of the Center and collaborate with the UIC Population Sciences Program on cross campus initiatives and innovative solutions to population health needs.
  • Engage cross campus stakeholders (UICOM, Population Health Sciences Program in the office of VCHA, UIC School of Public Health) to develop initiatives that drive policy changes, and grant opportunities across the UIC system. Establish inter-departmental programs and programs with affiliated healthcare systems, and community and business organizations and establish plan to achieve research goals and grant funding opportunities.
  • Build a community of population health and outcomes researchers at UICOMP overtime through collaboration with department heads. Direct the administrative operations of the Center including financial management, grant management and human resources. Determine the fiscal and personnel requirements for the growth of the Center, and what extramural funding opportunities are available to achieve this growth.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the activities of the Center and provide oversight of financial and personnel activities including the monitoring and evaluation of fiscal and annual operating budgets. Work closely with data, and product teams to inform the development of a business intelligence infrastructure to capture and analyze outcomes data and apply self-serve tools used for the continuous improvement of clinical outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare systems (OSF healthcare and UPH).
  • Collaborate with UICOMP Research Services to develop research opportunities for students,
    residents/fellows, and faculty around the topic of health outcomes, perform other related duties, and
    participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Build an infrastructure to conduct complex operational analyses and propose solutions to improve
    processes, and develop and recommend administrative policy. Represent the center on committees and at meetings both on and off campus.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • MD, PharmD or PhD required.
  • 3-5 years supervisory and administrative experience in research setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of current population health research.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Visionary leader who will help build a strong, vibrant program and initiatives that will inform clinical interventions, healthcare policy and community partnerships leading to improved health both regionally and nationally.
