The College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a full time Systems Administrator. This role will work under minimal supervision of the Co-Directors of Information Technology, the position manages endpoint devices within the College of Applied Health Sciences. The primary responsibilities include system administration, software packaging and deployment, operating system patching, and server management. This position will interact with the end users within the college and must possess excellent spoken and written communication skills, in addition to the required technical abilities listed further below. This position requires the ability to think strategically in structuring the end users computing environment. The position serves as a technical expert to staff and students; configures and deploys new equipment; and provides full support and management of all department devices.

  • Maintaining the deployment of software and drivers, push out updates to Windows machines using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and Apple devices using JAMF. Establish and maintain software documentation.
  • Provide support to faculty and staff by troubleshooting computer hardware, software, peripherals, and other University computing resources.
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
  • Coordinate with Technology Solutions and third-party vendors on any computing needs for AHS faculty and staff.
  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed
  • Provide Tier 1 Support for Classroom Equipment Troubleshooting

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 1 year of professional IT experience within System Administration & Operations which includes demonstrated experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.
  3. Demonstrated experience with Endpoint management with software deployment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Endpoint management with software deployment. 
  • Working knowledge of common user applications such as Microsoft Office, Firefox, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with general networking concepts.
