The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to hire an academic professional to conduct fieldwork supervision and organization in the Urban Education BA program. The fieldwork instructor visits students in fieldwork placements and documents observations and fieldwork assessments, and communicates with faculty instructing in fieldwork-based courses regarding student performance in the field, and with the Council of Teacher Education regarding the fulfilment of fieldwork requirements.

 

 

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct fieldwork visits and assessments of student interns in teaching placements.
  • Communicate with faculty instructors of fieldwork-based courses regarding student performance.
  • Document pertinent and required information related to fieldwork and organize materials for student documentation in fieldwork settings.
  • Communicate with the Council of Teacher Education regarding student completion of fieldwork requirements.
  • Intervene and refer students to resources throughout the University community as needed. Exercise professional discretion and judgment to troubleshoot issues and problems that may arise.
  • Maintain and update related databases as needed to ensure that student records accurately reflect student progress.
  • Participate on committees and/or teams as needed and/or assigned.
  • Know and enforce academic policies.

A Master’s degree in education required. 
At least 5 years of teaching in K-8 urban settings. 
Demonstrated experience working with students of diverse backgrounds (racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, gender, sexuality, etc.). 
Demonstrated experience working with teacher candidates (pre-service teachers) in supporting their learning in K-8 classrooms or university settings. 
Experience working in Chicago Public Schools preferred. 
Excellent communication, organization, presentation, and computer skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with other related software.
