This position oversees the administration of programs that support the recruitment of highly qualified and diverse applicants for entry to the Medical Doctor (MD) program for the entire College of Medicine. The Associate Director works collaboratively to form a unit with the Assistant Directors for Medical College Admissions at the Peoria and Rockford campuses.

Admissions Management

• Manage OMCA operations that help attract applicants to all campuses of the COM. Support all admissions related events such as interview day, Second Look Weekend, on campus recruitment events and visits from prospective students.

• Evaluate applicant data, national data, matriculating student data, and accepted candidate data (including those who decline offers) to inform future operations.

• Conduct outreach presentations to various University of Illinois programs (undergraduate, graduate, special programs and groups) and outside schools/programs at conferences and school fairs.

• Respond to prospective applicant and general public inquiries regarding admissions to the COM.

• Understand the communication, information, and resource needs of prospective applicants through social medial, collateral updates, and website content development/management to implement the overarching OMCA strategic recruitment plan.

• Provide notification of status changes and updates to applicants.

• Work closely with current medical students to engage them in the College’s admissions efforts.

Credential Evaluation

• Conduct reviews and evaluations of completed applications to the COM following the guidelines established by the Committee on Admissions.

Publications & Recruitment

• Write, update, and review the program summary, website content, and other official OMCA publications.

• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.

A master’s degree is preferred.

A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in higher education student affairs, preferably at a medical school.

Thorough knowledge of health professions student development and academic programming.

Working knowledge of university and college academic policies, academic records, and available student resources.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Well-developed interpersonal, verbal communication, written communication, time management, and project management skills.

Ability to work with diverse populations with demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural communication styles.

Ability to travel in and out of the state for recruitment purposes and attendance at conferences as needed.
