The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health) is seeking a full-time Director of Business Planning and Decision Support to join their team.

This position provides high level business planning, project management and analytical support for key strategic initiatives of the health enterprise. The Director of Business Planning & Decision Support will work closely with hospital and clinic leadership to manage the analysis, design, development, and implementation of diverse enterprise- wide strategic projects and initiatives.

This position directs the activities of the Business Planning & Decision Support staff responsible for assessing the financial feasibility of proposed and existing specialties and services, evaluating operating and capital budget requests and costs, evaluating revenue and outcomes impacts and providing financial, operational and benchmarking data and reports.

  • Provide comprehensive business planning support to analyze feasibility and desirability of potential health system initiatives and provide management support in the planning, development, and implementation of those initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project specifications, including business requirements, user requirements, functional and operating systems specifications.
  • Analyze and manage business requirements for new program initiatives, process re-designs, and operational reorganization efforts.
  • Establish systematic procedures for evaluating performance of different initiatives against expected costs and benefits.
  • Direct the analysis of Hospital & Clinics financial and operational performance and assist with financial strategic planning efforts
  • Perform bi-annual cost studies for all hospital and clinics to identify opportunities to improve cost/revenue capture and cost allocation.
  • Identify business development and capital investment opportunities and complete feasibility and profitability studies
  • Measure and project business demand, evaluate capacity and market trends, create financial models and formulate operational plans.
  • Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop, manage and mentor staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives and ensure that staff meet their personal goals for professional development.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Master’s degree in Business Adminstration, Management, or a field related to the position (Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Financial Management).
  • Seven or more years of healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success at relationship-building, communication, critical thinking, and influence to interact with all levels of organization and drive change.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry trends, issues, solutions and demonstrated professional leadership.
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills to gather, interpret, and present complex market and pro forma data.
  • Knowledge and experience in healthcare financial management, chargemaster, cost accounting, decision support, strategic planning, and process improvement.
  • Experience with health plan benefit structures and provider reimbursement arrangements.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing feasibility of proposals for strategic initiatives, developing business plans and assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise planning, organization, and follow-through skills to effectively complete assignments. Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Technical and analytical skills, including creativity and initiative, to conceptualize, plan and implement programs that support enterprise goals and objectives. Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relations with management of all levels, colleagues, and other strategic partners.
