The College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a full time Help Desk Manager. The Help Desk Manager is a core member of the IT team for the College of Applied Health Sciences. Under minimal supervision of the Co-Directors of Information Technology, the position manages the daily IT operations of units within the College of Applied Health Sciences. They will interact directly with the end users within the College and must possess excellent spoken and written communication skills, in addition to the required technical abilities listed further below. This position requires the ability to think strategically in providing user support. The position serves as a technical expert to staff and students; create, direct, and deliver training related to computing needs; and configures and deploys new equipment; and provides full support and management of all department devices. 

  • Train and manage student technicians and extra-help staff in completing support tickets, teach best practices, and cultivate good customer service skills
  • Technical Support - Provide support to faculty and staff by troubleshooting computer hardware, software, peripherals, and other University computing resources
  • System Administration – Assist with operating system patching, packaging, and distribution of software, providing or rescinding access to university resources via Active Directory security group
  • Staff/Faculty Computer Onboarding or New Equipment Transition – Ascertain faculty/staff computing needs in order to provide a streamlined onboarding for new hires or a seamless transition for current AHS personnel
  • Provide Tier 1 Support for Classroom Equipment Troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with the Technology Solutions and third-party vendors any computing needs for AHS faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience within IT Support Services which includes demonstrated experience providing end-user technical and troubleshooting support with computer hardware, software and classroom technologies within desktop and networking environments via, telephone, ticketing systems and/or onsite resolution.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experience installing operating systems and hardware troubleshooting preferred
  • Experience working in higher education.
