The Department of Restorative Dentistry in the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking candidates for a full-time Assistant Director of Digital Oral Health Science and Technology to join a worldwide leader in oral health education, clinical care and research that is patient –centered and evidence-based

The Assistant Director of Digital Oral Health Science and Technology supports the Digital Oral Health Curriculum as it relates to 3D digital technologies related to the fabrication of prosthetic devices to support patient care clinical programs and services.  The Assistant Director will be responsible for the development, management, maintenance of digital based imaging, assessment, diagnosis, design, and production of oral prosthetic devices.

Digital design, management and patient care services

  • Work with dentist and patient to assess and recommend prostheticdevices. Using digital equipment and technology, design and develop dentures, crowns, veneers, orthodontic appliances, etc.
  • Support the application of digital oral health services/systems as it relates to providing significantly improved efficiency, control, quality and outcomes of patient care.
  • Support and manage the implementation of the department’s digital oral health services plans, including the Patient Design Center.
  • Develop, initiate, apply and manage digitally based oral health services improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with other clinics in the College, to develop and maintain a comprehensive system and Patient Design Center for digital imaging, assessment, design and supportservices.
  • Improve overall customer service through support of student and patient assessment, planning and care as it relates to digital oral health technologies.
  • Support the professional communitybased digital programs including digital design and production services as well as continuing professional education.

Educational Programs and Curriculum support

  • Participate in the planning associated with the Digital Oral Health Services curriculum and programs.
  • Provide educational content for students enrolled in the pre-doctoral and Advanced Prosthodontic Programs related to 3D digital technologies, imaging, assessment, diagnostics, design and the fabrication of prosthetic devices.
  • Work closely with faculty, students and staff to advance a digital oral health environment, curriculum, and patient care services.

Operational Management and Maintenance

  • Manage the Dental laboratory supportservices and other vendors as it relates to the digital curriculum and patient care services.
  • Support the department’s capital procurement plans for digital technologies, instruments and related materials.
  • Analyze and refine student, faculty and patient satisfaction as it relates to digital oral health services.
  • Support the clinical and laboratory operations to maximize productivity, including staff, students, patients, and faculty.
  • Support digital oral health services facility operations; identify and resolve issues with IT and building management personnel. Monitor maintenance for facilities and equipment.
  • Order clinic and laboratory supplies; manage supply inventory as it relates to digital oral health technologies.
  • Performs other duties and participates in projects as assigned.

Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an oral health profession or health care research field and a minimum of 1 year of experience in oral health patient related care and services and experience in dentistry and dental lab services is required.  A DDS/DMD or equivalent or a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene with Licensure and Certification is preferred.

Candidates must have a fundamental understanding of dental laboratory processes as it relates to the design and fabrication of oral prosthetic devices and knowledge of and the ability to learn information regarding clinical dental skills, and dental laboratory prosthetics, computer technology proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, patient management software, and desktop publishing.
