UIC is seeking an experience Senior Academic Technologist to join our College of Nursing, Administration IT team. 

This team leader position is primarily responsible for supporting the academic audio-visual (AV) technology installed in formal and informal learning environments, including integrated multimedia systems, simulation labs, end-points, streaming technologies, and network configurations/solutions. This position provides advanced support across UIC’s ecosystem of educational technologies, including UIC's learning management systems, centrally managed tools, and collaborates in testing and integration of teaching technologies. The focus for this position is providing second-tier troubleshooting support for these systems, escalation of higher-level incidents to respective responsible parties both internal and external, associated task assignment and training for a student employee team. Additional duties include responsibility for routine preventative maintenance checks of supported systems installed in College of Nursing learning environments, following defined office procedures, suggesting improvements processes, and providing various general services to the clients of the office.

  • Assist clients in using academic technologies, including integrated multimedia, medical simulation labs, classroom technologies, distance learning technologies, hybrid instructional environments, end-point computers and streaming conferencing systems in learning environments.
  • Second-tier troubleshooting support for the academic technology systems and functions as the primary contact for procurement and support requests with contracted vendors for department-supported learning environments.
  • Participate in cross training exercises with coworkers to ensure all it staff can provide a basic level of support for the various services managed by the team.
  • Assign and oversee tasks to student employees.
  • Assist with IT helpdesk endpoint tasks and projects as required. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Plan multimedia network solutions. Resolve multimedia network issues.
  • Participate in the development of associated documentation to ensure efficient service provision and support: internal knowledgebase of procedures for common requests/incidents, training guides, manuals, and how-to documents.
  • Participate in individual or group faculty development workshops in response to faculty needs.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience within Academic Technologies including experience in designing, developing and delivering course-related instruction using technology solutions to support university faculty in teaching courses.
  3. Knowledge of the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of integrated multimedia systems

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certified Technology  Specialist (CTS) and/or CompTIA A+ certification is preferred.
  • Experience hiring and supervising student employees. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of integrated multimedia systems (e.g., Shure Crestron/AMX/Extron- controlled audiovisual systems. This include elements such as projectors, LCD displays, computers, speakers, scalers, digital signal processors, etc.).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technologies and visualizers (e.g., Echo360, Zoom, WebEx, Blackboard Learn) 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical simulation labs
  • Skillful with troubleshooting advance AV systems issues that involve classroom technologies (e.g., projectors, microphones, streaming applications for hybrid learning and conferencing environments).
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of AV technologies utilization in education environment.
  • Knowledge of hybrid learning applications.
  • Knowledge of streaming conferencing solutions.
  • Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Excellent customer service skills. Analytical skills to diagnose and solve problems in an economical timeframe. Create effective and detailed documentation.
  • Ability to explain and instruct others in the proper operation of media, computer, communication, audio, and video systems. Ability to effectively communicate and present concepts.
