Job Summary:

UIC is seeking a full time Development Team Lead to join the Student Affairs Technology team.

Under minimal supervision, this position will lead a mixed team of full stack developers and student undergrad/grad developers to build, integrate, and support critical web-based systems primarily service internal customer and collegiate partners. The Development Team Lead will collaborate with multiple unit and IT stakeholders to determine and implement online solutions that support SA goals. This role serves as an extension of the Assistant Director and an additional, public face of the SA tech unit in effectively building and maintaining deliberate and nurtured relationships wherever an opportunity exists.

The Development Team Lead is responsible for managing full life-cycle project, from participating in requirements gathering and technical design through development, launch, and support through our collaboration, and customer support services. The team is comprised of a mix of development roles focusing on technologies such as C#, C++, Java, PHP, Python, CSS, Web Services, and ITSM. This position is also one of five leaders who sit on the IT Leadership team.

Provides project management for large-scale IT implementations. This rol will need to be available for on-call, off-hours, or weekend work as applicable.

  • Manages the SAtech WEB/DEV team, coordinating application development activities and monitoring performance
  • Coaches team members on daily tasks and projects, completes performance evaluations, and approves time
  • Ensures that the operations processes, procedures, and policies are being achieved
  • Serves as technology consultant and innovator for Student Affairs staff and departments
  • Assesses and maintains appropriate resources to handle the diverse needs of our units, and collaborative service providers
  • Identifies problems to be solved, and coordinates resolutions appropriately
  • Documents processes, workflows, dependencies, and ensures that WEB/DEV team members are creating and updating documentation for cross-reference and posterity
  • Primary customer contact for development related questions/concerns, communications, on-site needs, and ticket escalations
  • Identifies development requirements and limitations of project requests
  • Consults with departments for feedback on deployed solutions
  • Solves user or system problems, including those that require solutions with originality and/or ingenuity
  • Is responsible for SAtech WEB/DEV student employee program, including hiring and development, and providing learning associated to their field of study and role on the team
  • Works with the staff resources to create, maintain, and continually improve training resources and best practices for handling the needs of our units
  • Develops and maintains training resources for on-boarding new WEB/DEV team members
  • Manage day-to-day office operations.
  • Orient, lead, mentor and evaluate staff to meet departmental and organizational needs.

 

 

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience within IT Development which includes demonstrated experience in developing and/or modifying new and existing applications, including requirement analysis, design, code, test, debug, implementation and maintenance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of programming languages C#, C++, Java, PHP, Python, CSS, Web Services, and ITSM
