The Administrative Nurse III (ANIII) is a Registered Professional Nurse who is responsible for developing and supervising of nursing services of one or more nursing units in the in-patient and/or out-patient departments utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Administrative Nurse III manages direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice and Magnet’s Five Models of Care into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Administrative Nurse III functions as a professional who manages quality patient care and facilitates achievement of unit and organizational goals. The ANIII plans, organizes, directs and controls all unit/service line activities involved in the effective, efficient and economical utilization of material resources and personnel of the delegated unit/service line, ensuring patient service is continuous and high quality. This position is responsible for orientation, training, development and management of unit/service line personnel. The ANIII relates effectively with team members for continuity of care, maintains satisfactory relations with other departments and nursing units, participates in all phases of education, maintenance of records and upgrading of policies, procedures and skills of personnel.

Professional/Leadership

  • Motivates and manages nurses, technicians, and other healthcare workers
  • Manages the unit/service line’s day-to-day clinical operations, includingpractice standards, staffing, budgets, fiscal management and qualityimprovement
  • Develops and implements action plans to improve staff development
  • Acts as a professional leadership role model
  • Manages, plans and monitors unit/service line activities
  • Hires, evaluates and counsels unit/service line personnel
  • Utilizes NPAS and Clarvia systems to facilitate optimal staffing, schedulingand patient assignments
  • Manages and controls unit/service line expenditures within establish budgets
  • Communicates effectively and maintains confidentiality with patients/families,medical staff, nursing staff and interdepartmental staff
  • Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, coworkers, community, and the nursing profession
  • Promotes and supports Shared Leadership as the selected method of nursing governance
  • Promotes collaboration between coworkers, all members of the health care
  • team as well as patients, their families, and significant others
  • Demonstrates the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers
  • Communicates in an effective and professional manner to reach conflict resolution
  • Actively participates in Medical Center communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages

Organizational

  • Adheres to and enforce the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Treats patients/families, staff, students and visitors with respect and dignity.
  • Adheres to and enforces Nursing’s time, overtime and attendance policies.
  • Completes electronic learning modules and related programs as assigned by Medical Center Learning by established date
  • Complies with University Health Services TB and fit-testing requirements
  • Initiates resolution of patient care problems utilizing established communication channels/chain of command
  • Resolves recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participates in problem solving and resolution utilizing established communication channels/chain of command

Education/Research

  • Facilitates the planning, presenting and evaluating of learning/educational experiences for staff and students
  • Serves as resource to other nursing staff and students
  • In collaboration with Staff Nurse II directs unit-based quality initiatives and provides feedback and education to staff
  • Encourages and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and in the Medical Center
  • Responsible for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs

Other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

  1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  2. Experience listed below:
    • Three years of professional nursing experience.
           OR
    • Two years of professional nursing experience and one year of related advanced education.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certification
  • Previous management experience
