This position is responsible for recruiting and interviewing participants for the Chicago team of an NIH / NEI funded, multi-center cohort study, SOL Ojos, located within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the College of Medicine.  This role’s primary goal will be to recruit 1500 enrolled participant by July 2023.

  • Recruit SOL Ojos participants from the existing HCHS/SOL cohort and update contact attempts on Sol Ojos Tracker in REDCap (target 25-30 enrolled participants per week).
  • Utilize communication skills to gain agreement from members to continue to participate in the research program; persistently forge trusting relationships and engage individuals not readily familiar with the research.
  • Meet participants, provide study overview, complete Informed Consent and Retinal Release Forms
  • Conduct Ocular SOL Survey
  • Register the participants and update the SOL Ojos data collection form on Redcap and participant folders after exams
  • Prepare participant incentives and maintain a spreadsheet to track the disbursement
  • Organize necessary documents for the study
  •  Follow IRB protocol as outlined by study.
  • Monitor project developments on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required.

 Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.

Entry level knowledge of research methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual and Bicultural in Spanish
  • Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to review and adhere to research protocols with great attention to detail
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
