The University of Illinois Cancer Center (UICC) is seeking candidates for a Research Specialist. The Research Specialist will support research projects housed within the Illinois Cancer Health Equity Research Center (I-CHER C). The goal of the I-CHER C is to maximize cancer health equity in racial, ethnic, and marginalized communities in Cook County. This position will assist the Senior Research Specialist, Research Scientists, and/or Principal Investigator with execution of a project aimed at increasing the utilization of colorectal cancer screening among racial and ethnic minority patient populations.

  • Participate in specialized research (i.e. community based, clinical, experimental lab, etc.) in collaboration with UI Cancer Center Senior Research Specialist/Research Scientists/Principal Investigator.
  • Adhere to research aims to achieve sponsor objectives.
  • Participate in the execution of all aspects of research studies.

             ?Lead participant recruitment and retention efforts

             ?Collect and analyze data, and maintain study databases

    ?Synthesize, evaluate, and report findings to Senior Research Specialist/Research Scientists/Principal Investigator, as well as other research staff and stakeholders.

     ?Assist with regulatory support, including protocols, evaluations, and other materials for IRB approval, amendments, and continuing review.

  • Monitor project development on an ongoing basis and implement changes as needed to ensure project progress and success.
  • Use proper scientific methods for publication and participate in scientific symposia.
  • Contribute materials, prepares scientific reports, and assist in the writing of research findings for papers, presentations, literature, grant submissions, progress reports, and peer reviewed publications.
  • Develop and maintain research records, grant information, research notes, and utilization as documentation for sponsor.
  • Train personnel on specific research techniques.
  • Identify and coordinate working relationships with peers at other research sites, Cancer Centers, and appropriate University/Hospital personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate and/or attends meetings related to the research projects, and represent the UI Cancer Center as a liaison with other research specialists, scientists, and investigators locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Schedule and lead discussion with research collaborators in the absences of the Senior Research Specialist, Research Scientists, or Principal Investigator.
  • Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 year of related research experience.
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills required.
  • Experience with cancer research, especially colorectal cancer and colorectal cancer screening, preferred
  • Experience with research participant recruitment and/or community-based participatory research preferred
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.?
