The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Innovation (OVCI) seeks a full time Accounting Associate to manage data, business processes and systems for the central IT division. The incumbent will own a complex set of expense and billing data for telecommunications and other technology services across the UIC campus.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Accounting and Finance, the Accounting Associate will join a dynamic Shared Services team in OVCI with an expanding portfolio. The Shared Services team supports UIC’s central IT unit, online education, corporate partnerships, entrepreneurship and a growing number of research initiatives. The successful incumbent will have opportunities to support all of these areas, and grow professionally as the portfolio grows.

  • Own a complex set of service accounts across the entire spectrum of telecommunications services for UIC. Provide monthly and annual billing to campus customers. Analyze billing statements, maintain data integrity and provide reporting to leadership.
  • Support accounting operations related to the calculation of recharge rates impacting the campus IT service. Assist with reporting and audit of self-supporting funds.
  • Manage database integrity. Create and modify inputs and processes. Run reports and reconcile data to ensure billing statements and rate calculations accurately reflect expenses.
  • Partner with various campus stakeholders. Collaborate with technical telecom staff to develop and align business processes with service delivery. Respond to inquiries from customers regarding billing statements and other data. Provide ad hoc reports and analyses for leadership.
  • Complete and file telecommunications tax filings for all government entities including City of Chicago and State of Illinois.
  • Assists with monthly reconciliation processes, yearend close activities and vendor payment processes.
  • Perform other accounting and financial reporting duties across the VCI portfolio as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. (A) Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field and Two years of professional level accounting experience 


OR 

(B) Possession of a current registration as a Certified Public Accountant or a valid License to practice Public Accounting (LPA). 

OR 

(C) Master’s degree in Accountancy or a related field

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, information systems, accounting or a field related to the position and/or CPA license.
  • Experience with BANNER, TEM, I-buy, and Pinnacle or similar enterprise level communications expense management tool.
  • Five years of business experience in an academic environment.  
  • Knowledge of OBFS policies and procedures.
  • Finance and billing related to telecommunications operations and services.
  • Knowledge of Pinnacle or similar enterprise level communications expense management tool.
  • Knowledge of or capacity to learn database management practices.
  • Advanced skill level in Excel.
