This position supports PHSP IHDD and helps lead a function within the Institute for addressing healthcare delivery problems requiring rapid response. This position plans, executes and oversees IHDD special projects in collaboration with Institute Director.

  • Provide overall leadership on special healthcare delivery design projects for the Director.
  • Assist in concept development and implementation of healthcare delivery design projects, policies and objectives.
  • Develop new knowledge, practices, and processes that help medicine fit people.
  •  Work with key stakeholders to assess issues and requirements for addressing health system needs to design and deliver effective experiences for UI Health and other clients.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing partners. Liaison to campus/university departments, community partners and organizations; establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with key staff at institutions; represent the Director on committees, key meetings and program communications; build and maintain relationships with agencies; assist with evaluation of policies and compliance.
  • Formulate project plans and staffing needs/requirements.
  • Carry out project plans, report findings to key stakeholders and revise and modify plans as situations change.
  • Deliver solutions and help map required next steps to ensure satisfactory resolutions of the issue.
  •  Respond to inquiries when IHDD is contacted for help.
  • Evaluate policies and procedures to enhance systems.
  • Ensure high quality design work through implementation of best practices.
  •  Contribute materials and disseminate results through reports, conference presentations, and proposals.

Staff Management
• Plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
• Provide leadership and oversight for Senior Design Strategists, Design Strategists, contract workers, student workers and interns.
• Mentor and develop team members.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop processes, practices, and infrastructure to support the productive integration of designers into project teams, and the productive well-being of all team members.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Master’s degree or higher in design or related field required.
Minimum of 5 years general design strategy experience.
Minimum of 2 years healthcare delivery design experience.
Strong organizational and management skills with commitment to timely delivery on project commitments.
Knowledge of complementary systems and process mapping (such as service design blueprinting).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing of high-level summaries and briefings.
Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
Experience supervising and developing staff.
