Compensation Consultant
 

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks a Compensation Consultant.  This position is responsible under the direction of the Director of Compensation and Senior Compensation Consultant for assisting in the administration, design, and management of the classification system at the UIC. Work with the Director in the creation and management of job classifications and management of jobs for Academic Professional and Civil Service employee’s campus wide. The successful candidate must be creative, results driven, analytical and have strong skills to manage priorities. The Compensation Consultant will review and identify enhancements of compensation tools and practices to improve competitiveness reviews, analytical and reporting practices, and compliance.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage classification studies and job analysis for new or existing positions across the UIC enterprise.
  • Manage the creation, administration, and maintenance of job family structures for existing and new positions at UIC.
  • Create and manage the development of job descriptions for all employee classifications and assigning FLSA status.
  • Manage the execution and administration of the UIC Compensation Philosophy and applicable compensation programs, and policies.
  • Proactively research and analyze compensation market data. Track turnover, offer acceptance rates and present findings and recommendations to HR leaders to ensure both internal equity and external competitiveness are maintained as appropriate.
  • Track compensation related metrics, provide analysis and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage the development, communication and distribution of compensation programs including salary structure administration, salary increases, and job leveling.
  • Perform market pricing evaluations and complete salary surveys.
  • Provide computational and data management for Compensation projects and programs.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, social sciences or public administration. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Five plus years of significant professional classification or compensation experience; 8-10 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and involvement in a compensation/classification study or project.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and aptitude to manage Compensation Data analytics and modeling.
  • Proven ability to work effectively using sound judgment and decision making.

Key Desired Attributes:

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred.
  • Excellent communications including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and other analytical formulas
  • Able to manage confidential data with a strong sense of integrity and sound business ethics.
  • Experience with Illinois’ State University System Policies and Classification System Requirements.                                                       
  • Working proficiency and knowledge of mathematical and statistical principals and their applications relative to compensation analysis.
  • Experience with compensation surveys and market analysis to prepare decision reports, and compliance recommendations.
  • Cultural competence to effectively interact with a diverse employee population.
  • Experience with/or support of successful change management.
  • Proficient knowledge of FLSA, EEO, ADA, and other applicable guidelines and policies covering compensation administration and compliance.
