Ten (10) Positions Available

The Medical Office Specialist will function within the Department of Audiology, providing a range of services to patients and audiologists.

Schedules patients for a variety of visits within Audiology and Otolaryngology, and assigns patients correctly based on department responsibility rotations and availability.

Confirms patient appointments and verifies insurance and registration information, in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.

Communicates with patients to triage appropriately in terms of appointment scheduling and/or the need for direct provider follow-up.

With appropriate release, provides department-specific clinical records to specified parties.

Serves as the face of the of the department, greeting patients (scheduled and walk-ins) and assisting as needed.

Coordinates with other medical office staff to share in responsibilities and accomplish all necessary responsibilities (e.g., scheduling from internal and external referrals, transcribing orders, confirming patients with sufficient notification and via their preferred method – email, phone, text.)

Takes the correct patient payments and documents accordingly, and is responsible for balancing the cash drawer daily when closing.

Orders office and clinical supplies in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate inventories that do not disrupt clinical flow.

Ultimately serves as a liaison for the department when communicating with patients and outside contacts – families, guardians, referring providers, students, schools, and vendors.

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent/GED
  2. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
    1. work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Associate level or in other positions of comparable responsibility
    2. college education with coursework in a medical or para-medical field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant or medical secretary and/or business field such as business, finance, computer science, public administration, or social science
      • 30 semester hours equals 6 months
      • 60 semester hours equals 1 year (12 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)
