The expanding Department of Family and Community Medicine currently has approximately 50 academic and clinical faculty members. The Department and faculty share a mission to provide excellent clinical care, education, and research that meets the primary care needs of a diverse urban population.  We are committed to providing care to many underserved communities, including patients with HIV, transgender care, and full-spectrum family planning. The Department partners with Mile Square Health Center, a federally qualified health center that serves an inner-city population at 11 outpatient sites. The Department runs the UIC student health service, serving over 30,000 students. The faculty and residents provide broad-spectrum care in the academic medical center, including maternity care at two outpatient clinics and two Family and Community Medicine inpatient services that admit all ages.  The department supports a broad range of clinical interests among its faculty and is committed to supporting and mentoring its members.

We have a top-rated Family and Community Medicine clerkship that trains 180 medical students each year and an outstanding Family and Community Medicine Residency with 27 residents. We have a longstanding history of developing educational innovations to prepare the health workforce to meet the needs of our diverse patient populations. We co-lead one of 48 national Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEPs) funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The department includes the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center (MATEC), also funded by HRSA. The position comes with a comprehensive benefits package and clinical incentive plan.
