The Pediatrics Departments at the closely affiliated Universities of Illinois-Chicago and Peoria are seeking a Clinical Geneticist with expertise in biochemical genetics to join our team. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a board certified clinical geneticist with expertise in the management of inborn errors of metabolism and newborn screening to provide consultation service for the closely affiliated Genetics Divisions at the University of Illinois-Chicago and Peoria. The section of Genetics provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and clinical evaluation services and treatment for children and adults who have birth defects and genetic disorders. Both institutions are referral consultant sites for positive newborn screens across the State of Illinois. Services also include: genetic counseling; carrier testing; and prenatal diagnosis for prospective parents. We have an on-site diagnostic biochemical genetics laboratory to provide fast, accurate diagnosis and treatment. We also provide genetics education for pediatric house staff, medical students and genetic counseling students.

Participation in the educational program for residents, fellows, nursing and medical students is essential. There is also excellent opportunity for clinical and basic sciences research as a wide variety of opportunities exist within. Both universities have a rich environment for clinical and basic sciences research within the Department of Pediatrics and through collaboration with other departments including the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Department of Ophthalmology. Start-up funding, mentoring, administrative research support is available for qualified applicants wishing to develop or continue the development of scientific programs in basic, clinical or health services.

The Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to providing comprehensive family-centered health care to all children, multi-level professional education to students, physicians and allied health care workers in all aspects of pediatrics, and a voice of advocacy for children of the state of Illinois.

UIC is located within the Illinois medical district which is also home to Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Chicago is a cultural and ethnically diverse world class city with many outstanding housing opportunities, cultural amenities, sporting events and two international airports. UICOMP is one of the regional campuses that make up the nations’ largest public medical school. UICOMPs main clinical partner is CHOI, a 124-bed, full-service hospital, with physicians in more than 115 pediatric specialties and 40+ subspecialties. Located on the campus of OSF St. Francis Medical Center, it’s the pediatric teaching affiliate of UICOMP, the states only major pediatric teaching hospital outside Chicago and home to groundbreaking pediatric research in medicine.

  • MD or DO from accredited medical school or foreign equivalent medical degree.
  • Unrestricted Illinois license to practice medicine or Illinois license eligible.
  • Board certification/eligibility in Genetics and Pediatrics is required.
  • Board certification/eligibility in Biochemical Genetics not required but desirable.
