The Visiting Research Associate I manages and coordinates the timely handling of recruitment and retention activities for research protocols related to COVID-19, asthma, and COPD in the Breathe Chicago Center (BCC) within the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep & Allergy in the Department of Medicine. This position develops and implements effective strategies for optimizing the recruitment of research participants and for maintaining their active engagement through to the study's end. The incumbent works with a team to ensure those study goals are met and that regulatory compliance is maintained. This position may be undertaken remotely and will be focused on COVID-19 patient engagement by telephone.  

Research
• Perform surveys, interviews, observations or uses other methods according to established research protocols.
• Prepare data for analysis and execute details of studies. Perform analysis and document results.
• May conduct literature searches.
• Order study supplies and maintain inventories.
 

Communication
• Maintain detailed records of results and prepare written reports.
• Maintain and process required paperwork.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience
Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
Entry-level knowledge of research methods.

  • Entry level knowledge of research methods. Demonstrated ability to provide customer service through at least one year of experience in a position involving work with patients, customers, and the general public.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to work in a flexible environment with shifting priorities. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn research protocols, principles and procedures, and aspects of clinical research studies required.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical research setting, experience working with federal regulations and IRB’s preferred.
