Job Summary

The UIC Law School, Chicago's first public law school, is seeking a reliable Security Officer. The Security Officer position at the UIC School of Law maintains security and safety inside and directly outside the law school buildings. Security officers serve at fixed posts and/or patrol assigned areas performing a variety of protective duties, including enforcing regulations, responding to disturbances, and serving as a first responder to assist in emergency and nonemergency situations.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

  • Patrols UIC School of Law campus buildings and grounds to observe security breaches or unsafe conditions.
  • Answers disturbance calls, alarms and initiates initial response action necessary to protect lives and property.
  • Directs individuals away from unauthorized areas or unsafe conditions, responds quickly to emergencies, and summons law enforcement authorities to make arrests and to restore peace and order when unlawful of hazardous conditions require control by police authority.
  • Dispatches calls using radio; prepares visitor passes; controls personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas.
  • Responds to emergency situations and drills; administers emergency first aid or CPR; performs fire control duties at small fires, immediately notifying responsible parties and removing individuals from area.
  • Investigates suspicious activity and reports to the appropriate authorities.
  • Provides security escorts to students and others upon request.
  • Participates in the development of crime prevention programming and education.
  • Assists in field training of new security staff.
  • Performs various activities including building tours and bank deposits.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualification Required

  • High school graduation or equivalent. (A copy of High School Diploma/ GED must be uploaded or graduation date must be listed on application )
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license. (A copy of front and back of drivers must be uploaded)
  • No record of conviction of a felony, or of a crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Current State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC). (A copy must be uploaded)
  • One year (12 months) of security experience in an institutional or medical setting. (Must be included on application)

You will not be required to report in person for this exam. The updated online application and all uploaded, relevant documents, such as a resume, college transcript, certifications and licensures will be used in the calculation of the exam score. These documents should be uploaded prior to the position close date.
