The Glusac group from the Department of Chemistry seeks a  Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in the organic synthesis of energy-related organic/inorganic materials. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is expected to work on the synthesis of nano-graphenes coordinated with transition metal catalysts for applications in electrocatalytic and photocatalytic processes, such as CO2 reduction. The electrocatalytic projects are funded by NSF and are performed in collaboration with faculty at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), while the photocatalytic projects are funded by DOE and are performed in collaboration with scientists at Argonne National Laboratory.

The anticipated start date for the position is May 01, 2022. The Glusac labs are located at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and at the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). The postdoc’s host institution will be UIC but they are expected to perform part of their research at ANL as well. Interested candidates should apply on the UIC jobs board.

 

Located in the heart of Chicago, the Department of Chemistry of the University of Illinois at Chicago is an internationally recognized Tier 1 research institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The department is comprised of over 30 research active faculty members who mentor more than 150 graduate students in all areas of chemistry and interdisciplinary research.

 

  • Perform the synthesis of transition metal-coordinated nanographene materials and investigate their electrochemical and photochemical behavior.
  • Collect, prepare and analyze research data.
  • Search relevant scientific literature.
  • Communicate research results in the form of journal publications and meeting presentations.
  • Manage the laboratory.
  • Supervise graduate students.

Qualifications:

PhD/Doctorate Degree in Chemistry, with strong experience in organic synthesis.
