The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Clinical Geneticist candidates for multiple positons who are board certified in pediatrics, family medicine, or internal medicine and qualify for certification or is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics. 
 
They must also have an MD, DO degree of foreign equivalent and hold an Illinois physician’s license or be eligible to obtain Illinois licensure.
 
The primary clinical responsibilities include provision of outpatient dysmorphology/clinical genetic evaluations, and inpatient genetic consultations. Other responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents in the department; organize and conduct research programs; and perform other duties of a University faulty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration. The program currently consists of a Clinical Biochemical Geneticist who provides regular clinics, a clinical geneticist who provides weekly telehealth clinics, a nurse practitioner and a genetic counselor.

The primary teaching hospital of the UICOMP is OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI), a tertiary care faculty serving a 37 county region with a population base of over two million.  CHOI provides comprehensive services to children, including Level IV NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical care Center. CHOI is a major medical facility with 136 beds and 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago. 
 
The Jump Trading Simulation Education Center, a state of the art simulation facility with over 40,000 square feet of space for faulty and other resources, is a joint venture between UICOMP and CHOI and is located on the OSF campus.

  • Provide outpatient diagnostic and management services for patients in the region with genetic disorders or undergoing genetic testing and provide inpatient consultation for children with inherited disorders or dysmorphologies.  Coordinate the efforts of related professionals to assure continuous availability of services.  Monitor and take steps to enhance the quality of genetic services delivered at UICOMP Department of Pediatrics and UICOMP’s main clinical partner, Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Develop and work on educational programs and activities for medical students and residents in relation to clinical genetics.
  • Maintain a spirit of inquiry and scholarship in the activities of the genetic service.
  • Perform administrative duties and University service as assigned.
  • Some travel may be required between healthcare facilities.
  • MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Illinois Physicians License or eligible to obtain Illinois licensure.
  • BC/BE by Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine and qualify or certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
