Job Summary

The University of Illinois at Chicago, UI Health & Hospital Systems, is looking to hire the ideal candidate to fill the position of Digital Imaging Specialist II in the Craniofacial Center. Under general supervision, a Digital Imaging Specialist II prepares and produces digital images for multimedia applications, electronic presentations and output to film or print. Their work may be incorporated into computer-based presentations, slides, web pages, or video/television productions.

 Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities

  • Images and Scanning: Takes 2D and 3D pictures and intra-oral / facial scans of patients Uploads 2D and 3D pictures, intra-oral scans and x-rays into Dolphin and CFC Server Scans images and performs highly complex retouching of images Modifies existing images to create highly technical and complex digital images
  • Resolves or advises on complex imaging problems and or projects that may have multiple applications or when other complex production issues are involved
  • Helps resolve problems for clients when a higher level of technical knowledge is required to solve problems
  • Prepares guides for clinicians to use in the operating room by using computer software and the 3D printing machines.
  • Completes data analysis for providers to use for research, publications, and/or presentations.
  • Publications: Assists clinicians with manuscript writing of publications, medical illustrations, research, and presenting at conferences and/or meetings
  • 3D Printing: Operates computer hardware and software requiring a high level of technical expertise to create and output computer-generated digital prints, 3D images, and surgical guides Set-up 3D printers to print, prints and cuts 3D products for clinicians Cleaning, Maintenance and Upkeep: Maintains electronic and mechanical equipment including x-ray machines 2D/3D cameras and photographic processors, intra-oral scanners, 3D digital printers, and milling machines Assists clinicians with technical solutions or with finding outside resources needed to complete projects Responsible for making recommendations to supervisors on equipment and software needs and ordering supplies for 3D printers and milling machines. Cleans up the 3D printing lab by ensuring that supplies are properly stored and not expired, cleaning the countertops and the machines of any visible soiled areas. May perform the duties of lower-level positions Performs other related duties as assigned

 Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Credentials To Be Verified By Placement Officer

  1. Any one or any combination totaling 1 year (12 months) from any of the following categories:
    • Credit for progressively more advanced college course work that would lead to a Bachelor’s degree in a communications production related field
      • 60 semester hours or an Associate’s degree or higher equals 1 year (12 months)
    • Progressively more responsible work experience and/or on the job training that provided knowledge of advanced practices and methods of digital imaging and processing.
  2. Two years of digital imaging experience consistent with the Digital Imaging Specialist I level of this series that included experience involving solving complex problems, performing highly complex imaging functions, and complex image retouching.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred knowledge and ability to perform digital surgical planning
Preferred knowledge and ability to operate 3d printers for the planning and fabrication of surgical guides
