Postdoctoral Research Associate - Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism (Job ID #157757)
College of Medicine / Department of Medicine
Postdoc Res Assoc
Chicago
04/17/2022

The laboratory of Dr. Abeer Mohamed in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to recruit a molecular biology postdoctoral research associate. A major research focus in our lab is endothelial cell dysfunction as an underlying mechanism in the pathogenesis of a wide range of obesity-associated diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, and tumor invasion and metastasis. Our present research focuses on unraveling multiple molecular and epigenetic mechanisms to better understand the multidimensional crosstalk between adipocytes and endothelial cells.

The laboratory utilizes in vitro (cultured cells) and in vivo (mouse) models as well as human samples obtained from surgeries and ongoing clinical trials. In the lab, we conduct several molecular and physiologic techniques including Western blotting, co-IP, ELISA assays, qPCR, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, ultracentrifugation, nanoparticle analysis, mouse echocardiography and metabolic measurements, microvascular preparation and vasoreactivity studies, and in vivo imaging. We also process samples to be analyzed via mass spectrometry (lipidomics and metabolomics) and RNA/DNA sequencing. The ideal candidate should work independently and collaboratively and have a keen interest in creative scientific projects.

We are an ambitious new group where challenges are there for the taking. As a postdoc, you will be given significant autonomy and will help develop future research areas. Also, as a more senior member of a new and growing research group, you will be expected to take on a bigger leadership role while also benefiting from more facetime with your supervisor.

  • Design and perform laboratory experiments using cell and molecular biology approaches.
  • Formulate and conduct scientific experiments and analyses.
  • Test, optimize, and implement both new and existing methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Perform complex data collections and laboratory techniques; analyze and evaluate research results.
  • Prepare results and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations, and grants.

A Ph.D. in biomedical sciences is required and 2-3 years of related research experience is highly desirable. It's also a plus if you've previously contributed to a publication as a first author.

To apply, please email a cover letter, CV, and the names/contact information for 3 references to amahmo4@uic.edu.
