The Department of Criminology, Law and Justice in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applicants for 2 Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor positions, beginning January 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval. One position is for a scholar who can teach quantitative research methods courses for graduate and undergraduate students.  The specific subject area of research is open.  The second position is for a scholar who can teach general criminology courses with a focus on youth (the criminalization of young people, youth institutions as carceral spaces, youth activism and resistance and the prevention/intervention on behalf of vulnerable young people).  Applicants whose work includes a focus on Chicago and/or have a comparative emphasis will be particularly attractive.  Both positions will build on the strength of the existing faculty and contribute to the interdisciplinary emphasis of the growing department.

The Criminology, Law and Justice Department is a dynamic unit comprised of interdisciplinary scholars who are committed to engaged research on many dimensions of crime and justice including issues of race, class, disability, gender and sexuality.  Faculty work in a wide range of areas, including the study of processes and consequences of social control in diverse settings such as schools, neighborhoods, policing, courts, and prisons; issues of social justice and abolition; and the etiology, impact, and prevention of violence.  The department is interested in strengthening qualitative and quantitative research capacity in the areas of immigration, community and gun crimes.  The Department is one of the largest and most diverse units in the college.  For more information, go to http://clj.uic.edu.

Applicants are expected to teach four courses a year (2 each semester) and support students as informal advisors and internship supervisors.  The Visiting Clinical Assistant Professors will participate in faculty meetings and other academic activities sponsored by the department and provide service to the university.

A PhD or equivalent terminal degree such as a JD) is required.  The discipline can be in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Education or related interdisciplinary discipline.  Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience with first generation students and students from diverse background preferred.
