UIC's Advanced Cyberinfrastructure for Education and Research (ACER) has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Assistant.  The candidate will work on a special project for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) but will directly report to the ACER project manager.

ACER is looking for an enthusiastic Graduate student to learn from professionals and contribute to the team. The work experience provided through ACER has consistently benefitted all of its former graduate student employees, helping them to jumpstart careers with high profile employers such as Apple and Amazon.

The candidate hired in this position will have the opportunity for potential renewal on a semester-by-semester basis through graduation. 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

a) managing incoming user support requests and providing technical debugging services through the ticket system;

b) build, maintain and provide technical assistance for Linux/Windows environments;

c) monitor system performance and maintain system security;

d) work with variety of databases and scripting languages;

e) assist the team with hardware repair, troubleshooting and maintenance as needed;

f) creates and maintains user and equipment documentation;

g) perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned; and

c) assisting other team members with maintenance tasks such as OS patching, security upgrades, and hardware maintenance;

Required skills (for interview eligibility):

a) prior experience with Linux and Windows administration;

b) basic understanding of networks, security and web services; and

c) excellent verbal/written communication skills, great attitude towards customer service, and the ability to manage timelines effectively.

 

Desired skills (can be learned on the job):

a) exposure to projects that involved management of sensitive data;

b) experience with building servers, installing patches, user management, firewall, security, network configuration;

c) demonstrable understanding and experience with network file systems, databases, and shell scripting;
