Visiting Physician Assistant (Multiple Positions)

The University of Illinois at Chicago Emergency Medicine Department is currently looking for muliple Visiting Physican Assistants to work at our off site location (Little Company of Mary)

 

The Visiting Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive health care for an assigned patient population as determined by the scope of practice guidelines and specialty and consults/confers with supervising physicians. This includes completion of a health assessment, determining diagnosis, planning and prescribing treatment within the parameters of medical staff privileges and area of expertise. The PA participates in the educational experiences of student learners in multiple health disciplines.

Manage the care of patients within assigned area and/or area of expertise and within parameters of medical staff privileges, works collaboratively with other providers in the care of patients.

Perform an accurate history and physical examination of patients. Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments, interpret results & develop patient care plans. Order appropriate consultation/referrals.

Perform various diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic procedures and/or other special screenings or laboratory testing according to clinical delineation of privileges.

Provide prevention strategies and management of acute and chronic health problems. Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.

Prescribe/order appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions

Provide clear, concise, accurate, and legible documentation regarding patient care in the medical record.

Provide education to patients, families, and significant others using established education materials.

Advocate for patients, families, co-workers, the community

Integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.

Assist with scheduling or patients for upcoming procedures including coordinating with other services (divisions/departments) and completion of necessary documentation, scheduling forms & clearance

Act as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting; participates in the educational experiences of learners

Leads multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services

 

Graduation from an accredited PA program

Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois required

PA experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent care setting preferred

Current American Heart Associate Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Current Controlled Substance licensure required

Current National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA)

Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physicians, APN and PA providers as well as multi-disciplinary care team

Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience.

Ability to meet all requirements for medical staff privileges
