The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is seeking to fill the position of  IT Technical Associate (Senior Citrix Engineer) for the Information Technology Services Department.

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Citrix Engineer serves as a contributor in architecture, planning, development, implementation and support of the UI Health Enterprise Citrix Environment. This role will join the existing Citrix Team that currently manages Citrix Virtual Applications & Desktops, including PVS. The Senior Citrix Engineer role is responsible for contributing to the overall direction, development, enhancement and maintenance of the enterprise Citrix environment. This includes analysis, planning, development and implementation of new features and enhancements to provide required levels of service to the organization.

The Senior Citrix Engineer will be directly supporting resources and vendors to ensure that all equipment is properly installed, configured, secured, and maintained. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly server infrastructure, critical business applications, and the overall end user experience when using Citrix as the application delivery mechanism. Proactively maintain the server and virtual desktop infrastructure across multiple locations to ensure high availability of mission critical applications. Ability to efficiently resolve issues at the server and virtual desktop levels is critical. Maintaining the environment, responsible for recommending and implementing technological improvements, and supporting the team in delivering mission critical projects. The Senior Citrix Engineer will setup and maintain monitoring systems in 24x7 production environments. 

  • Plans hardware needed for business/clinical systems and programs to be distributed to employee virtual desktops
  • Working knowledge and understanding of PVS for deployment of VDA’s; including servers and desktops
  •  Responsible for innovation roadmaps, maintenance scheduling, life cycle management, and capacity management for the Citrix environment and related dependent technologies.
  • Primarily responsible for the design, implementation, and support of solutions related to Citrix projects and initiatives
  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day administration, planning, and problem-solving for the Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environment on a 24x7 basis
  •  Support and manage Citrix applications related to Netscaler with Unified Gateway
  •  Identify inefficiencies, gaps and issues, and drive the analysis and documentation of technical requirements for enterprise Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop architecture, guiding adoption of and adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Responsible for keeping track of existing Citrix licenses and resource usage, trending and capacity planning for future growth
  •  Responsible for providing Disaster Recovery solutions as it relates to the Citrix Environment by developing and maintaining a library of procedures for disaster recovery documentation.
  •  Responsible for performance tuning and providing a high availability Citrix environment to eliminate single points of failure
  •  Manage ITSM ticket queue; own, and escalate issues through resolution. - Work with Windows/Server Responsible for working on virtualization initiatives
  •  Accurately maintain all documentation as it relates to configuration, processes, service records, asset inventories, topologies, administration manuals, job instructions, support contacts etc.
  •  Ensures IT Leadership is aware of all known and identified risks to system availability, performance, reliability and security
  •  Generate results through others (such as partners, vendors, contractors)
  •  Responsible for assigned server groups and applications/programs
  •  Builds, maintains and configures servers for virtual desktop distribution or application software
  •  Meets with assigned departments requesting technical information systems assistance
  •  Analyzes departmental needs and recommends solutions including analyzing resource requirements
  •  Works with user departments to implement solutions
  •  Loads and tests assigned software
  •  Troubleshoots hardware and software failures/anomalies from level 2 or 3 helpdesk calls, 24 x 7 operational support, related to application distribution or desktop access
  •  Monitors system performance, recommends and implements adjustments to improve efficiency
  •  Explore areas of improvement for environment, datacenters, DR/BCP, cloud environments, etc.
  •  Work with IS Applications and IS Service Desk Teams to develop and implement enterprise-wide standards, policies, procedures and processes, to provide seamless service to the UI Health end-users
  • Ensure that IS Infrastructure and Operations stay abreast of emerging products and trends.
  • Create proper documentation and run book of all system builds and processes Mentorship of other team members
  •  Work with IS Manager to maintain continuous process improvement, and to continue to advance the level of service; and provide performance reports to management as needed
  •  Manage problems and problem escalations in accordance with ITIL standards
  •  Develop and manage projects and project plans.
  • To be on a 24x7 support rotations as designated by the IT Manager Administrative Coordinator
  • Server and Service Desk Manager
  •  Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

  1. Any combination totaling two (2) years from the following categories:
  • progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession
  • college course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year
    • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years?

        2. Demonstrated experience with Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, PVS, Active Directory, Group Policy               Management, and Microsoft Windows .

This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. ?Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent on the job experience
  2. 5+ Years of experience working in Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environment with experience designing/implementing/administrating enterprise Windows/Citrix XenApp environments (6.5 and above). Citrix Provisioning services for XenApp and XenDesktop environment.
  3. 5+ Years of experience managing and Citrix Netscaler with Unified Gateway5+ Years Active Directory/Group Policy/Split DNS
  4. 5+ Years of experience managing and working in a highly virtualized Wintel environment utilizing VMWare ESXi 6.5+
  5. 5+ Years in Windows System Administration in a virtual and physical server environment
  6. 3+ Years of Enterprise level of Antivirus Solutions is a plus
  7. 2+ Years Mobile Device Management is a plus
