The Department of Criminology, Law, and Justice in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applicants for a Clinical Assistant Professor position(s) beginning Fall 2021 subject to Board of Trustees approval. The areas of research within Criminology are open but candidates must be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of philosophy of justice and theoretical criminology.  The position will build on the strengths of the existing faculty. In addition to evidence of strong teaching, the successful candidate should demonstrate an interest in supervising students in internships in the field and advising students on independent study projects.

The Criminology, Law, and Justice Department is a dynamic unit comprised of interdisciplinary scholars who are committed to engaged research on many dimensions of crime and justice including issues of race, class, disability, gender, and sexuality. Faculty work in a wide range of areas, including the study of processes and consequences of social control in diverse settings such as schools, neighborhoods, policing, courts, and prisons; issues of social justice; and the etiology, impact, and prevention of violence. The department is interested in strengthening qualitative and quantitative research capacity in the areas of immigration, community, and gun crimes. Faculty have exceptional research opportunities as a result of the Department’s affiliation with the Center for Research in Law and Justice and the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Violence, as well as strong relationships with agencies throughout the city, state, and nation. Applicants are expected to actively contribute to the research mission of the department. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses; four core courses each academic year, and supervise students in internships, independent students and as an advisor.

A Ph.D., or its foreign equivalent, in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or related field of study is required.
