The Jin Laboratory at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago is seeking to fill a Visiting Research Specialist position. Our work is focused on expanding our understanding of the muscle contractility and cell motility, with the goal of identifying strategies of targeting protein structure-function relationship and modification for the treatment of muscle, heart and cell motility related diseases. We seek a highly motivated individual with laboratory experience who will be able to perform experiments using biochemical, molecular biological and biophysical approaches.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the PI and other lab members to perform molecular biology and biochemical experiments, and handling of experimental animals such as mice
  • Replicate, refine and add new research approaches based on project needs. Test, customize and implement new methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Work with current lab members to order lab supplies and maintain laboratory stocks
  • Develop and write advanced, comprehensive experimental protocols.
  • Test, optimize, and implement both new and existing methods/techniques
  • Supervise and train new lab members
  • Coordinate laboratory activities to improve efficiency, productivity and safety
  • Contribute material, prepare results and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations, grants, and other documents for publication.
  • Perform relevant research work under the direction of the principal investigator and senior research staff

Minimum Qualifications: 
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology. A minimum of 1 year related laboratory experience required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience with tissue culture, western blots, PCR, and/or other molecular biology and biochemical techniques is highly valued. Recent graduates and/or those with post-undergraduate scientific training and/or work experience in a biological research laboratory are encouraged to apply.
