The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) is seeking to fill the position of  Accounting Associate for Mile Square Health Center. The Accounting Associate assists in facilitating the daily business, accounting and budgeting activities within the department. The Accounting Associate is responsible to identify, analyze, and report administrative operational inconsistencies; review program policy and maintain effective internal and external communication channels; research regulatory compliance policies and apply discretionary judgment in the coordination and follow-through of any and all aspects of the Mile Square Health Center Finance department

  • The Accounting Associate is expected to devise the work plan to complete tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner using the resources available within Mile Square Health Center Finance and UI Health. It is expected that all work be carried out in a professional manner in conformance with University Policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Oversees the fiscal management of business operations and assists in ensuring regulatory compliance for Health Care Organizations.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Departmental programs, objectives, and long-range planning.
  • Contacts third parties regarding the clarifications of contract negotiations and prepares financial sections of proposals.
  • Provides appropriate answers, feedback and clarification for revenue cycle requirements and policies to management in a timely manner. Provides and promotes excellence in organizational services related to Patient Accounts.
  • Develops standard calculation methodologies and processes for completing all reports accurately and by established due dates.
  • Responsible for creating and updating a variety of management reports including daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports and dashboards.
  • Identifies new reporting needs to monitor operational performance.
  • Establishes goals and standards for the team and collaborates on goals and standards for the entire department.
  • Identifies financial processes, billing and or posting errors occurred during the revenue cycle; recommends changes to maximize efficiencies, corrects or forwards to appropriate staff and monitors for completion.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
      OR
    2. Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).
      OR
    3. Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
  1. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1.  Familiarity and awareness of the laws and regulations that apply to an accounting function to ensure compliance 
  2. Knowledge of the University’s financial accounting systems
