Job Summary:

The School of Public Health is seeking a Grants & Contract Associate to join their team.

This position implements the research priorities in the School of Public Health in alignment with the College’s research strategic plan. The Research Proposal Development Specialist provides expert guidance to SPH faculty, staff, and students in maximizing the competitiveness of collaborative and complex research proposals. The Research Proposal Development Specialist customizes support services for investigators, which includes coordinating all aspects of the proposal submission process, developing project-specific grant submission timelines, creating and maintaining college-wide proposal development resources for use by faculty and staff, and serving as a resource for investigators on compliance with university and sponsor policies. 

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Collaborate and work with the Principal Investigator, research team, and external partners in building a comprehensive research proposal to be considered for funding.
  • Read and interpret funding opportunities and communicate sponsor requirements and review criteria to the research team. Organize and prepare pre-award proposal documentation, including budgets, institutional information, budget justifications, sponsor compliance, regulatory information, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) status.
  • Communicate with subcontract faculty/staff to gather details needed for grant application (budget, justification, scope of work, etc.). Collect and route documentation for Just-In-Time sponsor requests including supporting documentation. Copy edit non-technical components of grant proposals for grammar, typographical errors, consistency, and formatting in conformance with application requirements.
  • Provide resources and timely information to investigators to ensure proposals are compliant with protection of human research subjects’ requirements.
  • Teach faculty, staff, and students principles of grant proposal development. Craft templates for supporting documents that can be adapted by faculty for use in grant proposals.
  • Use productivity tools such as cloud-based file sharing platforms, virtual meeting software, and website editing tools to disseminate and maintain proposal development resources for college faculty and staff. Write and collate content for internal and external research communications, including the college website, listserv, reports, and research brochure.
  • Coordinate and support College-wide research initiatives and events to promote research collaboration and to highlight faculty research achievements.
  • Oversee all aspects of the annual SPH Student Research and Scholarship Day and poster competition. Manage the SPH Poster Printing Office, including hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistant; evaluate office productivity, and develop policies and procedures.
  • Review and approve Proposal Approval Form and related forms for units and unit heads who report to the Dean’s office prior to recommending/obtaining Dean’s signature. Collect and analyze data on grant submissions and other metrics identified in the strategic plan.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health, Public Administration or Social Science.
  • Education and experience in public health, public administration and policy, or non-profit management.
  • Grant/Research administration experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in contractual and grant monitoring procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers; word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and persuade; reconcile differences; persuade others to change their minds or behavior.
  • Ability to provide technical advice and information to faculty and staff in area of expertise.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions.
  • Ability to function in a high stress environment in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative; willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges; exercise independent judgment and discretion.
