The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine is looking for a Director of Administrative Operations. The activities of the Director of Administrative Operations will require the ability to work collaboratively and effectively, and with all levels of University and college leadership, faculty, staff, and students.

The successful candidate will develop, implement, and evaluate departmental administrative procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of all financial, personnel activities and HR administration, including the preparation, monitoring, and evaluation of fiscal and annual operating and capital budgets and grants and contracts. The individual contributes to the management of budgets, personnel, and operations within the unit, serving as a liaison between the Department Head, faculty, staff, students, college, and external parties. The Director of Administrative Operations reports directly to the Head of Department. 

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Management or in a related field. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 5 years of administrative/management experience is required. Management experience in an academic research setting is desired. Experience in UIC’s BANNER, HR Front End, Salary Planner, EDDIE, View Direct, NIH guidelines will be a definite advantage. Knowledge of HR processes and federal and non-federal grants administration are also desirable. Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills required. The successful candidate will possess the ability to deal effectively with institutional procedures and policies, manage budgets, and supervise departmental administrative staff. The incumbent should be an experienced problem solver with a strong background in management and HR policies. Position requires professionalism, complete discretion, the ability to multi-task, and exceptional organizational and communication skills.
