The laboratory of Dr. Mark McCauley in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to recruit a molecular cardiology postdoctoral researcher with previous experience in cardiovascular research. The McCauley laboratory investigates how molecular signaling leads to atrial contractile dysfunction and stroke risk in atrial fibrillation. The laboratory utilizes molecular and electrophysiologic techniques including: Western blotting, co-IP, RNA-seq, qPCR, bioinformatics, mouse echocardiography, mouse electrophysiology studies, and cardiac MRI. The ideal candidate should work independently and collaboratively, and have a keen interest in creative scientific projects.

• Design and perform laboratory experiments using cell and molecular biology approaches.
• Formulate and conduct scientific experiments and analyses.
• Test, optimize, and implement both new and existing methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Perform complex data collections and laboratory techniques; analyze and evaluate research results.
• Contribute materials, prepare results and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations and grants.
 

A PhD in biomedical sciences is required and 2-3 years related research experience is highly desirable. Additionally, prior research experience in one of the following areas is encouraged: cardiovascular diseases, physiology, biophysics, or virology.

Applicants must be within the first four years of receiving their M.D. or Ph.D to be eligible and have a strong research background in cardiovascular sciences.
