Act as the Emergency Incident Commander during situations of extreme crises to coordinate and ensure that basic hospital functions continues, while managing the crisis.
Represent the Management Staff and policies of Public Relations in situations involving the News Media, Fire and Police Departments, as well as all other public agencies to preserve the image of UI Health.
Provide administrative supervision to all areas of non-clinical care and clerical for direction, problem solving and discipline. Develop effective clinical strategies to lead and support decision making and actions for clinical staff and patient care units. May intervene and take immediate action when the supervisor and/or nursing leadership is unwilling or unable to do so.
Mentor and coach nursing staff and create an environment of professional growth by demonstrating proficient leadership skills at the nursing division level.
Initiate investigation of incidents that will result in liability exposure to UI Health and make notification to the department of Risk Management.
Deliver timely reports/communication to department directors in regards to operational problems that occur within their respective departments. Work closely with all nursing units to resolve staffing issues and concerns.
Receive and take necessary action upon receiving complaints from patients, visitors and staff. Serve as clinical authority and resource.
Locate and procure material and human resources that are necessary for the continuous operation of the UI Health.
Take whatever action is necessary to ensure quality patient care and the integrity of UI Health. Attend all emergency situations in the Hospital/Clinics and provide clinical administrative assistance and support as well as provide feedback regarding the effectiveness of emergency responses.


Responsible as liaison between patient and visitors for hospital related problems, policy clarifications and other non-programmed intervention. Work closely with the Emergency Department, Bed Management, Admitting, the Nursing Resource/Staffing Office, Nursing Units and Environmental and Patient Transportation Services to ensure patients are assigned beds and transferred appropriately. resolve issues and concerns and provide operational assistance when normal channels and resources are unavailable.
Assist department Executive/Senior Leadership in departmental operations through engagement, flexibility, and project involvement.
Provide notification to senior medical, clinical and administrative leaders in the case of a UI Health emergency, sentinel event and other events of a highly serious nature.
Provide administrative coverage to UI Health Hospital and Clinics, and all other present and future facilities.
Articulate standards and monitor compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing Regulation, regulatory agency standards and the policies of the Hospital. Translate the nursing and corporate vision and strategic plan into measurable goals and sustainable programs.
Utilize clinical information systems, to promote safety, quality and cost effective care.
Present emerging and innovative practice topics to team members at staff/leadership meetings; attend workshops, seminars, and just-in-time trainings.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Work Experience
Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required.
Master’s Degree preferred in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business. Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of five years clinical experience, preferably in an academic health care setting.
Minimum of three years healthcare supervisory experience in progressive hospital/nursing management positions preferably with broad hospital/patient care management responsibilities.
Nursing Certification required or within 1 year of hire.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
