Human Resources Associate (Compensation Analyst)

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks a Compensation Analyst. This position, under general supervision, reviews and approves all requests for positions under the civil service classification plan. This includes working collaboratively with hiring departments and other Human Resources staff to identify proper classification. Provides Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) transactional support as well as specialized services related to the implementation and maintenance of UIC’s compensation and classification systems and programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve Civil Service Requisitions through HRIS Application System. Provide guidance to departments regarding civil service classifications, qualifications and job families. Prepare and support classification recommendations; develop and/or revise job descriptions.
  • Maintain the State Civil Service reclassification and reallocation Process. Review all requests and corresponding job descriptions for accuracy and consistency in titling and job responsibility. Counsel departments on Civil Service process/procedures.
  • Create and maintain Civil Service positions for all UIC locations. Ensure all HRIS-Related Systems are updated with the most accurate position information by working collaboratively with various departments.
  • Review, approve and enter Compensation related system transactions into Banner. This includes, but is not limited to, position data corrections, lump sum increases, and temporary upgrades/supplemental pay.
  • Provide compensation related guidance on issues, programs and policies. Answer client and manager questions regarding Compensation issues, including monitoring and fielding emails sent to general question inboxes related to Compensation.
  • Serve on project teams and work groups to provide all necessary compensation guidance, data analysis and facilitate reporting needs, including collective bargaining agreement implementation.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years’ of Compensation experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of Office products (e.g. PowerPoint and Access) with advanced knowledge in Excel and Word; problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations effectively and interact effectively with managers and employees.
