02/01/2021

The College of Nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a Bridge to the Faculty Post-Doctoral Research Associate, to be served in the UIC Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Science beginning August 16, 2021.

Program Goals: The Bridge to the Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate program seeks to advance diversity on the permanent faculty level by encouraging the recruitment, retention, and promotion of outstanding scholars from different backgrounds, with an emphasis on attracting individuals from groups who have been historically underrepresented in science. The goal of this program is to recruit, mentor, and support the transition of outstanding candidates from postdoctoral assignments to research active, tenure track faculty members. In addition to mentorship within the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Science, the Bridge to the Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in a cohort-based mentoring experience through the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity, where they will have the opportunity to meet other Bridge to the Faculty Scholars.  Successful postdocs with department approval will have the opportunity to transition to faculty starting in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Located in the heart of one of the most vibrant cities in the United States, UIC is a comprehensive urban public research (R1) university with a diverse student body and a strong tradition of support for difference and equality. UIC is among the nation’s top five most diverse campuses.

A successful candidate will work with established UIC faculty to develop an independent and competitive research program that would make them attractive for conversion to an open UIC tenure track faculty position in the Department after two years. Research duties will include peer-reviewed publications, submission for extramural grant funding, and the preparation of a detailed research plan that will be used to apply for a position as a tenure track assistant professor in the Department that would start in August 2023. The post doc research associate will engage in a mentored teaching experiences, including co-teaching one course at the undergraduate or graduate level during the second year.

Candidates must have completed their PhD in Nursing or a closely related health science field within the past three years – no earlier than August 15, 2017 and no later than August 15, 2021. This is a full-time position including a competitive salary and benefits package.
